Description
Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems Long Range Certificate is applicable to non-SOLAS vessels operating beyond the range of VHF where long range communication is essential.
Course Objectives
On successful completion of this course, candidates should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- General knowledge of radio communications and basic features of the Maritime Mobile Service.
- Detailed practical knowledge and ability to use radio equipment.
- Operational procedures of the GMDSS and detailed practical operation of GMDSS sub-systems and equipment appropriate to non-SOLAS vessels.
- General knowledge of the Maritime-Mobile Satellite Service.
- Miscellaneous skills and operational procedures for RT communications.
Prerequisites
Please refer to basic requirements.
The course scope requires minimal insight into maritime radio communication practices.
Elementary computer skills will be an advantage to learners since practical training is computer based but such skills are by no means a prerequisite.
