Competence In Survival Craft And Rescue Boats

Candidates should show proficiency in the following: 
Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch:

• Interpret the markings of survival craft as to the number of persons they are intended to carry; 
• Give correct commands for launching and boarding a survival craft, clearing the ship and handling disembarking persons from survival craft; 
• Prepare and safely launch survival craft and clear the ship’s side quickly and 
• Safely recover survival craft and rescue boats.

Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship:

• Row and steer a boat and steer by compass; 
• Use individual itemsof equipment of survival crafts, except for pyrotechnics; 
• Rig devices to aid location. 

Use locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus:

• Use of portable radio equipment for survival craft. 

Apply first aid to survivors. 

Prerequisites

Please refer to basic requirements and please submit the following:

• Proof of having served at sea in any capacity for a period of not less than 6 months.
• Certificates: Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Medically fit

Additional: 

• Should be able to tread water/swim.
• Candidates are required to bring old clothes or overalls plus deck shoes (safety boots) for the boat exercises.
